新定义第三册第二课中的一个句子默写疑问

Whatever are you doing up here Bill? asked the vicar in surprise.

这个是原句,但我默写的时候却是 Whatever are you doing up here Bill? the vicar asked in surprise.

我的问题就是好作者如何把ask提到主语the vicar前面去了,这种引语方面的需要注意的地方在新定义一册和二册中的哪一个有所涉猎,我应该认真看哪一课的自学导读.

两种表达都对。主语是名词时，用“名词+谓语”（the vicar asked）或“谓语+名词”（asked the vicar）均可；主语是代词时，用“代词+谓语较为容易见到，但也可以用“谓语+代词”。请看84版高中英语《第二册》Lesson 11“The Last Lesson”课文中的两个句子：

“Children,”he said, “this is the last time that I shall give you a lesson.”

The master rose from his chair. “My friends,” said he, “my friends, ... I ... I ...”
