前面有人提问了South China 的翻译问题，很感谢刘老师的解答，很受益。但我还有一个问题：怎么样理解 South America？是指“南美国”（美国南部），还是指“南美洲”这个洲？或者指两者都可以？很感谢！
South America 指“南美洲”，不是“美国南部”。
▲大家都知道，地球的西半球主如果“美洲”（America）；美洲又分为“南美洲”（South America）和“北美洲”（North America）。South America 和North America 的首字母都要大写。除此之外，单独的America 除去指“美洲”，还可指“美国”，只有在具体语境才可分辨是什么词义。
比如：
He’s touring South America at this moment in time.他此刻正在南美旅游观光。
They fled to South America around the turn of the century. 他们在世纪之交逃到了南美洲。
That ship is bound for South America. 
那艘船是驶往南美的。
Antarctica is about 600 miles from the tip of South America.南极洲到南美洲尖端的距离约为六百英里。
The Western Hemisphere refers to North and South America.西半球是指南北美洲。

1. the south of America
2. the American South
3. the southern United States
4. the southern U.S.
比如：
He spent the afternoon of his life in the south of America.他在美国南部度过了晚年。
