据《上海证券报》5月25日报道，中国金融期货交易平台将推出国内首批股指期权商品。

股指期权亦作指数期权，大家用英文stock index option表示，是以股票市场的价格指数作为买卖标的物（object of transaction）的期货品种，是以股票指数（stock index ）为行权品种的期权合约（option contract）。Option这里指期权，又称选择权，如看涨期权(call option）、股票期权（stock option）、 实物期权（real option）。股指期权是在股指期货（stock index futures）的基础上产生的。

中金所董事长表示，自2013年11月8日拓展股指期权仿真买卖（simulation trading）以来，商品已十分成熟，最近将推出3种股指期权商品。同时，中金所还开发了VIX指数（Volatility Index），海外俗称恐惧指数，使得股市风险愈加可控。

有评论指出，将要推出的股指期权将帮助投资者管理股市波动风险（manage volatile^{2 equity3 market risk），鼓励价值投资（value trading），鼓励双向买卖，促进价格发现（price discovery），克服了投资者追涨杀跌的羊群效应。}
